This blog reflects on progress since the 2024 High-Level Segment on Statelessness, using the 2025 Global Refugee Forum Progress Review to assess momentum behind the Global Alliance to End Statelessness (GAtES). While membership has grown and multistakeholder dialogue strengthened, concrete government commitments remain limited. Severe US aid cuts have reduced UNHCR’s capacity and civil society funding, threatening progress. The blog calls for stronger leadership, greater resourcing, broader state engagement, and meaningful centring of lived experience to ensure efforts to end statelessness translate into real-world impact.
