Statelessness and continue to look into the possibility of regularising the situation of more members of the Bidoon community.81 In addition, the Committee recommended that Kuwait ensure that birth certificates and other documents are issued to Bidoon women, men and children as a means of preventing statelessness. Recommendations: • • • • Respect, protect and fulfil the right to nationality of the Bidoon population by granting them citizenship and taking further measures to ensure appropriate protections of their rights; Put an end to discriminatory laws and policies against members of the Bidoon community particularly women and children; Ensure that Bidoon exercising their rights to freedom of movement, peaceful assembly, opinion and expression are not subjected to arbitrary deprivation of liberty; Facilitate independent research into, and then initiate clear procedures to identify and determine the number and profiles of all individuals who have been denied their right to nationality in Kuwait and are therefore stateless, particularly the Bidoon communities. 81 CEDAW, Concluding observations on the fifth periodic report of Kuwait, 22 November 2017, CEDAW/C/KWT/CO/5, para 33. 18 UPR KUWAIT
