This statement marks eight years since the Myanmar military’s atrocities against the Rohingya in August 2017, when hundreds of villages were destroyed, thousands killed, and at least 700,000 people forced to flee to Bangladesh. An independent UN mission found evidence of genocide and crimes against humanity, but no one has been held accountable in Myanmar. Rohingya in Rakhine State continue to face killings, forced recruitment, movement restrictions, and aid blockages, while over one million refugees in Bangladesh live in dire conditions. Nearly 60 organisations urge international accountability, Rohingya participation in decision-making, restored citizenship, and equal rights.
