Join us in our Campaign to End Statelessness
Mobilizing Governments and Civil Society
The fourth anniversary of the #IBelong Campaign was
commemorated on 14 November at UNHCR Headquarters
in Geneva. Government representatives, sister UN
agencies, civil society partners, high-level supporters
and UNHCR staff gathered to mark the mid-point of
the Campaign. The event featured remarks by the High
Commissioner for Refugees, the Ambassador of Brazil
on behalf of some members of the Group of Friends,
and Artee Mayer, a formerly stateless young woman
from Thailand who recounted her journey from being
stateless to becoming a citizen. Spirits were lifted with a
performance by eShun, UNHCR’s High-Level Supporter
from Ghana, who performed her Afropop-inspired
IBelong song. The event also included the launch of a
new Handbook for Parliamentarians on Good Practices
in Nationality Laws for the Prevention and Reduction of
Statelessness. The Handbook is a joint publication by the
Inter-Parliamentary Union and UNHCR.
