Co:\:<nn:TIU!'i OF ZIMBABWE A~1E"D~lE~1 ('\u No.1 20) 2013 (3) All Zimbab~vean citizens are entitled to the following rights and henefits, in addition to any others granted to them hy law(a) to the protection of the State wherever they may he; (b) to passports and other travel documents; and (c) to birth certificates and other identity documents isslIcd by the State, (4) Zimhahwean citizens have the following duties, in addition to any others imposed upon them by law-- 36 (a) to be loyal to Zimbabwe; (b) to ohserve this Constitution and to respect its ideals and institutions; (c) to respect the national tlag and the national anthem; and (d) to the best of their ability, to defend Zimbahwe and its sovereignty. Citizenship by birth (I) Persons are Zimhahwean citizens by birth if they were born in Zimhahwe and. when they were hom(a) either their mother or their father was a Zimhahwean citizen; or (h) any of their grandparents was a Zimhahwean ci tizen hy hirth or descent. (2) Persons hom outside Zimhabwe are Zimhabwean citizens hy bilth if, when they were hom, either of their parents was a Zimhabwean citizen and(a) ordinarily resident in Zimhabwe; or (b) working outside Zim habwe for the State or an international organisation. (3) A child found in Zimbahwe who is, or appears to be, Ic~s than fifteen years of age. and whose nationality and parents are not known. is presumed to he a Zimhahwean citizen hy bilth. 37 Citizenship by descent Suhject to section :;6(2). persons hom outside Zimhabwe m'e Zimhahwean citi;:ens hy descent if. when they were hOI11(a) either of their parents or any or their grandparents was a Zimhahwean citi/~en hy hilth or descent; or (h) either of their parents was a Zimhahwean citizen by registration: and the birth is registered in Zimhahwe in accordance with the law relating to the registration of hirths. 38 Citizenship by registration (I) Any person who has heen married to a Zimhahwean citi;:en for at least five years, whether before or after the effective date, and who satisfies the conditions presclibed by an Act of Pariialllent. is entitled. on application, to be registered as a Zilllbabwean citizen. (2) Any person who has heen continuously and lawfully resident in Zimbabwe for at least ten years, whether before or after thc cffcctivc date, and who satisfies the conditions prescrihed hy an Act of Parliament. is entitled. on application, to be registered as a Zimhahwean citizen. 0) A child who is not a Zimhahwean citizen, hut is adopted hy a Zimhabwean citizen. whether before or after the effective date. is entitled, on application, to be registered as a Zimbabwean citizen_ 24
