Global Recommendations on Nationality and Statelessness in the Context of Climate Change

Documents

Description: The Peter McMullin Centre on Statelessness and UNHCR have issued the world’s first Global Recommendations on Nationality and Statelessness in the Context of Climate Change. Developed in consultation with a wide range of experts and stakeholders, the recommendations are grounded in international law and policy frameworks on the right to a nationality, the prevention and reduction of statelessness, human rights, climate change, disaster risk reduction, and human mobility. They respond to the urgent but under-recognised nexus between climate change, nationality, and statelessness and are intended to support practical action to prevent new cases of statelessness, reduce existing statelessness, and protect those whose rights are at risk in the context of climate change.
