Key Learnings from My Visit to Italy:  An in-depth understanding of the pathway to Italian citizenship for stateless children;  An understanding and link to the key individuals and organisations working on the issue of childhood statelessness in Italy;  An understanding of the history and operation of the two SDPs in Italy (administrative and judicial) and how an Australian version may learn from the Italian models’ strengths and weaknesses;  An invaluable understanding of history, evolution and operation of the three Italian stateless legal clinics, relevant to the operation and expansion of the Australian Stateless Legal Clinic;  An understanding of how commercial law Firms are offering innovative support to initiatives aimed at supporting stateless children;  An invaluable understanding of the importance of stateless lead organisations who can provide a direct voice to government and decision makers on issues affecting them, with the aim of assessing how we may support the establishment of a similar organisation in Australia;  An insight into the daily life and lived experience of members of the Scampia Roma Camp, and how student legal clinics can work effectively with stateless communities through conducting outreach;  An understanding of how local UNHCR ofFices can drive action on reducing statelessness and support innovative initiatives such as the formation as a stateless led organisation and university based stateless legal services;  An understanding of the challenges stateless people in Italy face in understanding and accessing their rights, as well as the acute discrimination they face;  An understanding of the challenges the Italian legal sector faces in terms of assisting stateless people and obtaining necessary funding;  An understanding of the key groups impacted by statelessness in Italy;  Invaluable connections and relationships that will continue into the future to allow me to enhance and expand the Stateless Legal Clinic, as well as drive reform on the issue of statelessness in Australia.
