Gillian Triggs has served as Assistant Secretary
General and Assistant High Commissioner for
Protection in the Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees since 2019.
Prior to her appointment to the UNHCR, Gillian
served as the President of the Australian Human
Rights Commission from 2012-2017. During this
time, she oversaw the National Inquiry into
Children in Immigration Detention, including
stateless children.lxxii
Gillian launched the Stateless Legal Clinic in 2021,
at a event discussing the importance of addressing
and resolving childhood statelessness in Australia.
