This feasibility study is built around the issues related to the statelessness and access of nationality of children that had been identified by the CDCJMIG as the most relevant and served as basis for the questionnaire sent to the competent national authorities: preventing the statelessness of children; child-friendly procedures for determining nationality or statelessness: legal aid, representation, access to information and justice for children; age assessment; and awareness-raising measures and training of relevant actors on statelessness and access to nationality for children. In respect of most of these issues, a short description of existing international standards (conventions, soft law, and international case law) is provided. This is followed by a summary of the rules and practice existing at the national level as reflected in answers of states to the questionnaire. Where available, this is supplemented by information from other sources. The study then goes on to examine what appropriate follow-up could be given in terms of instruments to address the difficulties faced by stateless children in procedures connected with access to nationality.
