Other notable achievements: • After the implementation of the ChileRecononce (“Chile Recognizes”) project, and changes in national legislation, approximately 1,400 people born in Chile to parents with an irregular migration status, many whom were at risk of statelessness or stateless, were able to confirm their Chilean nationality. Similarly, the country’s Proyecto Nacionalidad (Nationality Project) identified children who were born in Colombia but traveled to Chile without documentation, subsequently confirming their Colombian nationality and regularizing their migratory status. • In 2023, amendments were adopted to the Citizenship Law in Moldova, providing for access to Moldovan nationality for all children born in its territory who are unable to acquire nationality from the parents, and who would otherwise be stateless. Previously, the ability of such children to acquire Moldovan nationality was dependent on the legal status of their parents in Moldova, unless one or both parents were also stateless. • Albania adopted a new Citizenship Law in 2020 providing an unrestricted safeguard to grant Albanian citizenship to all children born in Albania who would otherwise be stateless. • Spain has ensured very strong safeguards against childhood statelessness in its nationality law and Spanish courts have established broad criteria in the interpretation of the applicable safeguards to allow access to nationality or civil registration for migrant children born in transit. 20 #IBELONG
