Other notable achievements: • As of 2023, 5,104 people in western Malaysia obtained nationality out of 13,801 stateless persons registered with the Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas, a Malaysian non-governmental organization that has received technical support from UNHCR. • Thailand enacted policy reform via Cabinet Resolution in 2016 to improve access to civil registration and nationality for descendants of ethnic minorities who were born in the country. • Since 2014, Tajikistan has identified 60,773 individuals at risk of statelessness or already stateless within its borders; 58,204 of these individuals were documented and their cases solved, granting them essential identity documents such as residency permits, passports, and birth certificates. • In September 2024, the President of Turkmenistan issued a decree that granted citizenship to the country’s remaining 1,146 stateless individuals.
