The Kuwaiti Democratic Forum has also issued a statement demanding all the decisions on Nationality be subjected to the rule of law and that all the state’s decisions of the mass stripping of nationality be revoked. (28) The Kuwaiti Association for Basic Foundations of Human Rights issued a statement to request the government to reconsider the decisions of revoking the nationality based on Article 8.(29) The Islamic Constitution Movement also issued a statement about stripping the nationality based on Article 8, warning about its dire effects on families and society.(30) The Kuwaiti Progressive Movement, in a statement, demanded the formation of a legal committee to receive complaints from those stripped of nationality, and called on the Kuwaiti authorities to join the international conventions and treaties on stateless persons. (31) An editorial of the national newspaper,Al-Qabas, called on the government to reconsider the decisions of stripping nationality of naturalised women based on Article 8. (32) Most of the public opinions were centred on demands to repeal decisions of stripping nationalities of foreign wives based on Article 8, as they represent most of the affected people. The authorities, so far, have responded in a mixed way. On the one hand, the Minister of Interior, Fahad Al-Youssef, stated that all the women whose nationality was stripped based on the Article 8 amendment will receive all their rights, except the nationality. However, authorities started a clampdown on the most prominent voices against the amendments. This includes prohibiting an event organised and announced by the Kuwaiti Women’s Cultural and Social Committee to discuss the legal and social implications of withdrawing nationality based on Article 8.
