Description: This article examines maximum age qualifications when defining the term ‘foundling’ in Article 2 of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness. The article examines the travaux preparatoires of the 1961 Convention and compares nationality laws of 193 UN member states, of which 142 have foundling provisions. In light of the protections provided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, namely the best interest principle and Article 7, the article argues that ‘foundling’ is not age restricted to young children but protects all minors.
