Description: This 2016 report contains updated statistics on the global scale of statelessness. The data and narrative offered in the report confirm that the statistical picture of statelessness remains both incomplete and complex. According to the report, “60,800 stateless people in 31 countries acquired nationality” in 2016. The new report estimates a 2016 population of at least 10 million people who were “stateless or at risk of statelessness”. The introduction of the category of persons at “risk of statelessness” in the new report is not explained, and its significance is unclear.
