This article explains the appeal of the Natives of Bakassi Peninsula to the international community for assistance, to be integrated into either Nigeria or Cameroon. In 2002, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) decided that the Bakassi peninsula belongs to Cameroon, however the Bakassi people claimed they had become stateless as the Francophone country did not recognise them, and treated them as foreigners. The article highlights some speeches delivered at a joint forum on ending statelessness organized by UNHCR and ECOWAS in Abuja.
