The lack of decisive intervention by both regional bodies like the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the broader international community has not only allowed the violence to persist but has also emboldened Myanmar military (Tatmadaw) and non-state armed groups like the Arakan Army (AA) to deny Rohingya’s existence in Myanmar and further perpetuate their suffering. Despite widespread international condemnation, the response from the global community has been insufficient, allowing the Myanmar military junta and the Arakan Army (AA) to continue their genocidal actions against the Rohingya with impunity.
