who had been part of the federal Czech Republic prior to dissolution. Contemporaneously, they also granted the right of option to those individuals who were not citizens of the federal State, but who were habitually resident in the territory. Such individuals were offered the possibility to acquire the nationality of the Czech Republic. Nearly all individuals who were habitually resident in Czech territory who did not acquire Czech nationality ex lege on the basis of the criterion of “citizenship” of the prior federal Czech unit acquired such nationality via optional application. Therefore, approximately 376,000 Slovak nationals acquired Czech nationality in the period from 1 January 1993 to 30 June 1994.87 36
