Highlights • In October, UNHCR High Commissioner Filippo Grandi launched the Global Alliance to End Statelessness during the High-Level Segment on Statelessness at the annual Executive Committee meeting of UNHCR in Geneva. • Thailand approved a Cabinet Resolution to fasttrack nationality and legal status applications for long-term residents and children born in its territory, benefiting hundreds of thousands of registered stateless persons. • Turkmenistan announced it had resolved all known statelessness cases within its territory. • In Zimbabwe, UNHCR supported Malawi’s Embassy in mobile consular clinics, assisting Malawian-origin individuals with information on nationality, dual citizenship, and documentation. • Latin American and Caribbean states adopted the Cartagena+40: Chile Declaration and Plan of Action, reaffirming commitments to protection and solutions for displaced and stateless persons. • South Sudan acceded to the 1954 and 1961 Statelessness Conventions.
