This blog outlines the work of the Identity Rights Working Group (IDRWG), a consortium of over 25 organisations that advances advocacy on identity issues for children, including through engagement with UN treaty bodies, and calls for stronger laws, inclusive systems, and safeguards to ensure every child’s right to a legal identity. The IDRWG focuses on the main identity rights in the CRC: birth registration, nationality, and the ability to know one’s origins and family relations. Member organisations work on a cross section of issues relevant to children’s identity, and the IDRWG leverages this diverse expertise to position their work as an intersectional issue within international spaces.
