This conference session examined how UN mechanisms can drive change on statelessness. Speakers highlighted gains such as the AU protocol, the IACHR resolution, HRC actions, UN special procedures and UPR growth, as well as gaps including discriminatory nationality laws, citizenship stripping, minority targeting and weak implementation. They urged ratifications, monitoring, resources and inclusion of stateless people. Rohingya advocates stressed urgent protection and tackling root causes. UNHCR’s I Belong campaign spurred progress and a broader multi stakeholder Alliance must deliver solutions.
