As of March 2024, the power to deprive someone of their citizenship for the
public good even if it would leave them stateless had never been exercised. 37
Number of appeals
Between 1 April 2015 and 30 September 2024, the First-tier Tribunal allowed
over 300 appeals against citizenship deprivation. 38
These will be mostly cases involving fraud. Appeals with a national security
element are heard at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission. Statistics
on SIAC appeals are not routinely published, although individual judgments
are available online. 39
