This article discusses Sierra Leone’s Parliament adoption of the ‘Citizenship Amendment Act 2017’, which amended the Citizenship Act of 1973. The new law adjusted the rules surrounding citizenship by birth, whereas under the previous law, fathers were the only ones able to pass down citizenship, under the new rule, citizenship by birth can also be passed down through the mother.
