In general, a first step towards more effective protection of stateless persons would be the ratification of both Conventions on Statelessness by future hosts of displaced islanders. It would also prove very helpful to have the ILA Sea Level Rise Committee elaborate further on the challenges surrounding statehood, nationality and human rights in the context of disappearing island states. That task will be essential in light of the consequences for displaced populations due to territories that are disappearing. 68
