Prior to the interviews, questions based on the following topics were defined: Table 1 Thematic issues Issues covered in interviews with stateless persons Migration background and the individual’s current situation Circumstances of becoming stateless Self-perception Impact of statelessness on daily life Possibilities of resolving the situation and efforts made to date Experience with detention Assistance, identity and relationships with the local population. Interviews with all participants were conducted during the period between July and November 2018. When analysing the interviews, the method of descriptive coding and sub-coding5 was used in combination with a narrative analysis. Moreover, administrative decisions and court decisions provided by the participants were used as a secondary source in the analysis of the interviews. 5 J.
