In 2017 Ekaterina co-founded United Stateless - the first and only U.S.- based human rights advocacy organisation led by stateless persons dedicated to solving statelessness in the United States. Amina is a Board Member of United Stateless. United Stateless is a national organisation led by stateless people whose mission is to build and inspire community among those affected by statelessness, and to advocate for their human rights.cxlv Members exist all over the United States. It was invaluable to meet with Ekaterina and Amina. In the case of Ekaterina, I was grateful for the generosity with which she shared her own story of statelessness, and her passion to address the issue through her work as a founding member of United Stateless. It was equally wonderful to have met with Amina and learn about the work of United Statelessness. Australia does not have any stateless-led group akin to United Stateless, and so it was useful to understand how the organisation was established and operates, with a view to understanding how interest in the establishment of a similar organisation in Australia might be ascertained by the Australian stateless community. STOP 8: BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS Organisations and Individuals I met with / activities engaged in: (a) Meeting: Professor Susan M. Akram, Clinical Professor of Law, Boston University Professor Susan Akram directs Boston University’s International Human Rights Clinic in which she supervises students engaged in legal advocacy on issues including statelessness. The meeting allowed me to learn from the operation of a longer running university-based legal clinic for stateless people, providing me with an invaluable opportunity to understand the operation, design and impact of the Clinic. Professor Akram generously shared operation details with me regarding her clinical program which provided me with concrete ideas for how I may better support and expand the Australian Stateless Legal Clinic.
