I wish to begin by acknowledging that I live and work on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation. I wish to acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners and
pay my respects to Elders past, present and
emerging.

The Fellowship was a truly inspiring, enriching
and valuable experience providing me with
many ideas to bring back to Australia, as well as
laying the foundation for international
networks that will benefit the Australian
community for years to come. I also commend
the Trust for openly acknowledging the
complex and contested legacy of Sir Winston
Churchill on its website.i I encourage readers to
engage with the essays the Trust commissioned
with the aim of fostering constructive and
thoughtful debate on this issue, particularly
that of Dr Susan Carland.ii
BRIAN AND DOROTHY WILSON
I would like to sincerely thank the late Brian
and Dorothy Wilson for establishing this
sponsored Fellowship. I was lucky to speak
with their son Bruce in the course of drafting
this report, who generously shared details of
Brian and Dorothy’s life with me and their
lifelong commitment to the Churchill Trust. I
hope I do their legacy justice with this Report
and through our shared commitment to
making a positive difference in the lives of
disadvantaged children. Thank you Bruce.
My work establishing and leading the Stateless
Legal Clinic, which forms the basis of this
Fellowship, would not be possible without the
