How can UNHCR support? • • Help States to identify populations for whom lack of nationality documentation creates a heightened risk of statelessness, as well as legal, procedural and practical obstacles to the issuance of nationality documentation to those who are entitled to it. Advocate and provide technical advice for reforms of laws, policies and procedures to ensure that everyone entitled to nationality under the law acquires documentary proof of nationality. • • • • Promote accessible and uniform procedures for issuing nationality documentation. Provide governments with technical support in issuing nationality documentation to populations at risk of statelessness. Support public information campaigns to raise awareness of procedures for obtaining nationality documentation, particularly among populations at risk of statelessness. Support the provision of legal aid to assist individuals at risk of statelessness with applications for nationality documentation.
