Seun Bamidele Methodology This study adopts a qualitative research design grounded in postcolonial theory and Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL), aiming to critically examine the Bakassi Peninsula conflict through the intersecting lenses of legal sovereignty, statelessness, and displacement. The qualitative approach is particularly suited to unpacking how international legal decisions and state actions translate into human (in)security for affected populations in Africa’s contested borderlands. The map shows the Bakassi Peninsula situated along the Gulf of Guinea, at the maritime boundary between southeastern Nigeria and southwestern Cameroon. The disputed area lies near the Cross-River estuary and is known for its strategic position and resource-rich offshore zones. This geographic context is essential for understanding the territorial conflict and its human implications.
