IMMIGRATION LAW, LEGAL STATUS, AND DOCUMENTATION Immigration and citizenship law and policy, as well as relevant administrative orders, rules, and regulations, govern the legal status of persons in Bangladesh. This includes most principally the Foreigners Act 1946, the Citizenship Act 1951, Citizenship Rules 1952, and the Bangladesh Citizenship (Temporary Provisions) Order 1972, and Rules 1978. Detailed discussions about the applicability of domestic citizenship laws and their potential in providing protection to Rohingya in Bangladesh are outside the scope of this document, which is primarily concerned with the rights of Rohingya persons who are non-citizens in Bangladesh and protection-seekers in Bangladesh.
