15 THE STATELESSNESS LEXICON This study relies upon a technical lexicon specific to the statelessness phenomenon in general and relating to the Lebanese context in particular. NONREGISTERED MAKTOUM EL QAYD INHERITED Persons born to a stateless father of Lebanese origins, whose family has been residing in Lebanon for a long period Persons in Lebanon whose name and identity are not attached to any official registry (Qayd) Persons born to a Lebanese father and whose birth was not registered in the due limit fixed to one year by the Lebanese legislation Box 3. Statelessness categories Statelessness is primarily attached to the failure to comply with nationality law provisions. Yet, “the lack of a solid definition of Lebanese identity and citizenship, together with the ongoing political stalemate, has created a series of unique legal categories of non-citizenship used to label groups of cases on which a decision could not be reached”1. STATELESS OUTLIERS Exceptional and unusual cases of statelessness that occurred due to uncommon, at times absurd, reasons QAYD EL DARS Persons from “unspecified nationality” whose original nationality is pending.
