Sixteen percent claimed they needed to travel to their place of birth, whilst 5 percent could not say. Of those who had to travel to their birthplace, 48 percent were not aware that they could obtain a birth certificate in their current place of residence. 5.2 Certificate of citizenship Most respondents (48 percent) last took out certificates of citizenship between one and five years prior to the Survey, with 27 percent having done so less than one year before. Nearly three-quarters of the Roma, Ashkalis, and Egyptians from the sampled settlements obtained citizenship certificates in their residence, and 23 percent claimed to have done so in their birthplace.
