OPERATIONAL UPDATE > Ukraine Operation / DECEMBER 2021 from different regions of Ukraine learned about difficulties in obtaining birth registration by conflictaffected people as well as the rights of IDPs and conflict-affected persons in Ukraine. ■ UNHCR delivered video production equipment to an IDP-led NGO “Veselka TV”, a professional TV studio for youth and children, through UNHCR’s Innovation Fund. ■ On 10 December, UNHCR participated in a celebration of the 6th anniversary of an IDP Community Centre in Irpin, Kyiv oblast. UNHCR supported the creation of the centre in 2015 by rehabilitating its premises that were provided to the centre by regional authorities. Gender-based violence (GBV) ■ On 8 December, UNHCR jointly with local authorities and NGO partners, SOS Children's Villages Ukraine and Stabilization Support Services in Ukraine, presented the Gender Passport of Luhansk oblast – a demographic analysis carried out from a gender perspective. It was the fourth of its kind, covering the period of 2015-2020. The analysis covers only Luhansk oblast GCA and is based on the territorial breakdown that existed before the decentralization reform in Ukraine. The main findings are: a decrease in the overall population of the region; a higher level of mortality compared to the birth rate; and a low number of marriages.The analysis helps infom the understanding of the authorities and partners of the profile and needs and capacities of the local population and tailor the services and assistance available. ■ UNHCR provided IT/techical, heating, medical and childcare equipment for the Bakhmut shelter for GBV and domestic violence survivors. UNHCR coordinated the provision of this support with UNDP , which are renovating the shelter through the UN Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme. ■ From 1 to 3 December, UNHCR supported an initiative of local authorities in Olhynka, Donetsk oblast, GCA, to arrange for a three-day online training on non-conflictual communication for 22 school children, as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign. This includes assistance in obtaining personal documentation, accessing administrative and other essential services, and receiving authorization to cross EECPs. 72 Persons received psychosocial assistance www.unhcr.org Psychological assistance helps conflict-affected persons deal with trauma, domestic violence, grief, depression and anxiety, including the effects of quarantine restrictions. 7
