In 2021, a Spanish court remarkably recognised as a Spanish national a child who lacked a birth certificate as she was born in transit in Morocco, while her mother was on a journey from Cameroon to Spain. This pioneering judicial ruling puts an end to the child’s statelessness, but also highlights the problem of “invisible children” and opens a path of hope for the fight against this plight.
