Thematic analysis of pledges Pledges relevant to ensuring no child is born stateless (Action 2 of the Global Action Plan) The majority of stateless persons have lacked nationality from birth. Since the start of the #IBelong Campaign, 6 States have included provisions in their nationality laws to grant nationality to children born in their territory who would otherwise be stateless, and 2 States have introduced provisions which grant nationality to children of their nationals born abroad who would otherwise be stateless. These developments are positive, but much more must be done in many more States in order to achieve the aim of preventing childhood statelessness entirely. In this regard it is welcome that 27 of the pledges made at the HLS pertain to safeguarding children against statelessness.
