56 Global Recommendations on Nationality and Statelessness 56 in the Context of Climate Change PART B 7. GLOBAL RECOMMENDATIONS | Recommendation 5 Global Recommendations on Nationality and Statelessness in the Context of Climate Change PART B 7. GLOBAL RECOMMENDATIONS | Recommendation 5 IV. Prevent IV. Prevent Recommendation 5 7.27 Annex 1 of the Global Recommendations sets out an annotated assessment template to support States to undertake country-specific or regional risk assessments. The template will assist States to analyse relevant domestic laws, policies and practices, identify potential gaps or lack of safeguards against statelessness, and examine potential conflicts of laws that may compound or lead to risks of statelessness. Implementation: 7.28 57 To implement Recommendation 5, States can: •Undertake country-specific and regional risk assessments to identify potential risks of statelessness in relevant laws and policies using the template set out in Annex 1. •Undertake further analysis into the interaction between the nationality laws of specific States of departure and destination to identify where risks of statelessness might arise in situations where displacement or migration in the context of climate change is anticipated. •Work within regional organisations of which they are members to harmonize nationality laws, particularly to reduce conflicts of laws that may create or increase risks of statelessness. In crisis situations, risks of loss of nationality and statelessness can arise where domestic laws and policies fail to provide safeguards against loss of nationality and statelessness
