STOP 10: PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA Organisations and Individuals I Met With / Activities Engaged In: (a) Meetings and workshop: United Stateless, including Stateless Services (Legal) Karina Ambartsoumain-Clogh, Executive Director Samantha Sitterley, Staff Attorney About United Stateless: United Stateless is a stateless people-led national organisation founded in 2018, whose mission is to build and inspire community among those affected by statelessness, and to advocate for their human rights. United Stateless does this through connecting, encouraging, and empowering a community of stateless people in the US. They work to raise awareness of statelessness issues in the US as well as globally, and to educate the community, public and stakeholders about the issue of statelessness. United Stateless advocates for the human rights of stateless people and changes to domestic laws to introduce a path to citizenship for the stateless in the US. The Statelessness Service is a key component of the work of United Stateless through which they connect stateless people in the US to legal, social and housing services, while building the capacity of the legal community to effectively represent stateless people. The organisation partners with the Brooklyn Law Safe Harbor Clinic and immigration legal services providers, including the Hebrew Immigration Aids Society, to provide legal support and to expand referral networks. Additionally, United Stateless develops tools and training for legal service providers on Stateless screening, identification, and service provision. Furthermore, United Stateless has a direct focus on research and student engagement. They build partnerships with students and faculty at colleges, universities, and law schools to undertake research on Statelessness, increase awareness, and equip students to be advocates.
