Fellowship, I was able to harness some of these key learnings, by expanding the Clinic to partner with Refugee Legal and law firm Lander & Rogers to assist stateless adults. Through meeting with expert organisations and individuals working on the issue of statelessness more broadly, I aimed to understand successful models for law reform and government engagement on this critical human rights issue that may be applied to the Australian context. My Fellowship allowed me to foster invaluable professional relationships within the global statelessness legal services sector, essentially helping to put Australian stateless legal services on the radar of other international organisations and individuals working on this issue. Australia is now ‘on the map’ as a country committed to addressing this issue through legal advocacy and assistance. The Australian government must now step up to demonstrate commitment to tackling the issue through legislative and policy implementation. Importantly, the Fellowship allowed me to visit and connect with stateless individuals in various parts of the world who generously shared their stories and hopes for the future.
