understanding how interest in the establishment of a similar organisation in Australia might be ascertained by the Australian stateless community. (b) Meeting: Laura Bingham, global expert on statelessness and United Stateless Board Member Laura Bingham is the director of the Institute of Law, Innovation and Technology at Temple Law School. She is also a globally recognised expert on nationality and migration law, including statelessness, and has extensive experience in international human rights litigation, including a landmark ruling on a child’s right to a nationality (Zhao v The Netherlands). She has also previously worked as a senior managing legal officer with the Open Society Justice Initiative. Meeting with Laura provided a valuable opportunity to connect with somebody who has also transitioned to teaching law (in particular clinical legal subjects) from legal practice. As a leading expert on statelessness with a wealth of experience in the field (including in strategic litigation) it was useful to discuss her expertise in this space, as well as share with her information about the Stateless Legal Clinic. STOP 11: NEW YORK, NEW YORK Organisations and Individuals I met with / activities engaged in: (a) Meeting: Matthew Charles Davis, Media and Strategic Communications Consultant to United Stateless Matthew is a media and strategic communications consultant who provides support and advice to United Stateless. Our meeting provided me with invaluable insights into the importance of strategic communications in both raising awareness about the issue of statelessness, as well as supporting advocacy and reform on the issue. Our meeting left me with many ideas as to how dedicated strategic support may be effectively utilised to do the same in Australia, and I hope to collaborate with Matthew in future.
