Most significantly, refugees who have experienced a threatening event, such as violence, are more than three times more likely to suffer from depression than those who did not. Among female refugees in South Sudan, Cameroon and Pakistan, the prevalence of depression is 18 per cent (from 14 to 29 per cent), with older women showing a higher prevalence. Households headed by refugees that had been widowed or were separated from their partner were also 40 per cent more likely to report suffering from depression.
